DIGITAL MEDIA COMMUNICATION

Digital Media Communication

imageThe Digital Media Communications (DMC) course is a 9th grade technology class that focuses on the rapidly changing world of media and the transformation that digital technologies have brought to the communication of entertainment and information. In the first semester of this program, students develop and participate in creative thinking and design activities using digital media, focusing on emerging topics in Earth and Energy Science Essentials (E3). Students later work in small teams to produce a multimedia project that communicates information about climate change to a specified audience. This project is delivered on a Web site and incorporates research delivered through animations, simulations, and documentary short films.

What Do You Do in DMC?

DMC students work on individual assignments at the beginning of the year. These individual assignments provide each student with the opportunity to use multiple Web applications and resources to complete their own digital media and film productions. This individual work includes the creation of a Web page, animation, logo, public service announcement, virtual presentation, and a news report. Upon successful completion of these projects, each student joins a small team in a project-based learning environment to produce and market a final multimedia project related to our changing climate.
