In context of a simulated outbreak, students will learn:
- DNA extraction
- Gel Electrophoresis
- PCR
- DNA Sequencing
- Bioinformatics
What content knowledge will students learn in the program?
- Content focus is on molecular biology
- Applications in the fields of epidemiology and disease
- Students explore the field of biotechnology
- Careers as well as discuss bioethics
- In a simulated outbreak, students analyze the DNA of the causative agent
- Students determine a strategy for mitigating the spread of the disease

Monday, June 28- Friday, July 2

What is the age range for students in this program?
- Middle school program: 12-14
- High school program: 15-18
What if any prior knowledge is required? What is recommended (but not required)?
Interest in the biotechnology.
What if anything do students need to bring with them to the program?
- Notebook
- Pen and pencil
- Flash drive
- Lab coat. A lab coat may be purchased if the student does not already have one.

What should parents know about this program?
- Under appropriate direction students work with chemicals
- An appropriate level of maturity is necessary
- Chemicals are potentially harmful if handled improperly
What is the expected dress code?
- Dress code outlined in the expectations for student behavior
- Closed toed shoes are required
