Jane Donn

Managing Director

Jane is responsible for the fiscal management of the Center. She plans budgets, oversees the accounting, and writes grants to support the educational work done at the Center. Jane creates real world curricula in health care and public health for two of the Center’s courses. She also assists in recruiting new schools for the Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences and other Center programs.

Background

Jane has a background in biology and worked for twenty years in genetic research and hospital laboratory medicine. With a passion for literature and teaching, she returned to school to major in English Literature and Writing, and then taught for ten years. She began her work at EDUCATION CONNECTION managing the federally-funded School-to-Career Program. In 2005, Jane teamed with Michael Mino to co-found the Center for 21st Century Skills at EDUCATION CONNECTION.

Philosophy

Jane wants to change the face of public education and bring it into the 21st century. She feels that students should be taught to use current technology as an integral part of their studies, not as an add-on to the curricula. Students are immersed in technology outside of school; we need to develop courses that allow students to explore the subject matter in a way that takes advantage of that technology and utilizes the resources available in our increasingly connected world.

Professional Highlights

Jane was nominated for the Women of Innovation Award for her work at the Center. This awards program gathers the Connecticut technology community to recognize women in the workforce who are innovators, role models and leaders in the technology, science and engineering fields. Another highlight for her was when the Foundations of Health Science and Technology curriculum was accepted for articulation with the CT college system. Jane considers the day-to-day work with the exciting, visionary center staff the most rewarding part of her job.

Hobbies

Jane’s hobbies include spending time with her children and grandchildren. Tennis is a passion; she plays several times a week. Jane also enjoys the excitement and experience of traveling; she has taken classes in Italy and even skiied a glacier from Italy into France. Jane recently returned from trips to Hilton Head and Portugal.
